MINISTER'S MESSAGE:
It certainly has been good to be back with you after our trip abroad, it was delightful and so educational. We were able to see sights we have never seen before as well as see again places where we had been before. It was the best of both worlds. One location that I had never visited before was that of London, England. I could not wait to view Westminster Abbey. You and I even shared a series of sermons several years ago on the Marytrs from every continent. These figures included such outstanding Christian leaders as St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Oscar Romero, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and Dr. Martin Lurther King, Jr. When we were in a garden area in front of Westminster Abbey I asked our guide about these figures and their location as a part of Westerminster Abbey. The guide pointed me in the direction of the garden and said, “You must mean these, Nelson Mandella, Abraham Lincoln and others.” I did not question, but was not satisfied. Later I went back and reaffirmed my point of all the martyrs who are a part of the structure of Westminster Abbey.
I may not know a lot, but I sure know a Saint when I see one. Upon my return the Cynthiana Christian Church lost a true saint, Ed Lanthorn. In the good days Ed and Jim Swinford took care of any need we might have at the church. They took the place of Melvin Hampton, Harold Kendall, Richard Perkins and Wayne Stewart, Jr. It is my opinion that we have many active lives still functioning as part of our congregation. They are still alive and making significant contributions with their words and efforts, but they are living lives that are quite saintly. What creates for a saintly person has to do with a spirit of humility. We have so many people in our congregation who simply do what is expected of them to do as followers of Christ. It is always pleasing for me to slow down every now and then and remember those people, those saintly people who we should always remember and honor. Ed Lanthorn would be one of those persons. What a blessing it is to minister with you. I give thanks every day for that opportunity. See you Sunday.

HERITAGE MINISTRY NEWS
The Heritage Ministry is excited as writing is progressing on the church’s second history book, documenting the years from 1901 to 2024. This seems an appropriate time to announce that church member, Lee Kendall, has agreed to write a summary of how the church responded to the April, 1974 Tornados and the March, 1997 Flood. If you have a specific story of how the church helped someone or how someone helped the church, please see Lee. If you have photos, please share those with Julie Edwards. Also be sure to look at the shelf of Heritage photos albums and document notebooks recently placed in the church library. Please make time to enjoy these while you are at the church. We request that you do not remove them from the building. We appreciate your cooperation.

The vase of iris in front of the baptistery on Earth Sunday were from iris bulbs received from Dave Kennedy years ago during our annual plant exchange. This year alone seventeen vases of Dave’s iris have been delivered to nursing homes by Green Chalice’s “Blooms of Love” volunteers. If you have blooms of any kind to share contact Val Cooley, Paula Adams or Jennifer Muntz. This year’s plant exchange will be May 19. Also on that day, our youth will plant zinnia seedlings from the Garden of Eden greenhouse in the church flower beds for future vases of blooms. Plant a seed and watch it grow! We need donations of bud vases and medium-sized vases. Place them in the labeled bins in the Communion Preparation Room. Thank you for being good stewards of God’s creation.
