Functional Committees of the Cynthiana Christian Church (Disciples of Christ)
In accordance with the Bylaws of the Cynthiana Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), the following functional committees, along with their respective chairpersons and their individual missions are listed below.
Christian Education--Chairpersons--Joseph and Emily Ammerman
Shall plan and administer the total education program. Shall cooperate with other groups of the congregation in program planning.
Worship--Chairperson - Phil Cook
Shall be responsible for all formal worship of the congregation. Shall make provisions for a pulpit speaker in absence of the Minister. Shall encourage the devotional life of individual members and families.
Outreach--Chairperson- Andy Peak
Shall focus on the mission of the church both in the local and world communities by promoting denominational causes, sponsoring and supporting ecumenical concerns, determining a plan of participation in ministries of reconciliation.
Property--Chairperson - Marty Simpson
Shall care for all properties of the church. Shall make recommendations for improvement of church property. Shall oversee the work of the custodian and provide for care of the grounds.
Membership/Evangelism--Chairperson - Donna Jacobs
Shall endeavor to develop a spirit of fellowship in the congregation. Shall provide for the orientation of new members into the life of the church. Shall cultivate a spirit of evangelism and church growth within the church.
Finance--Chairperson W.L. Renaker, Jr.
Shall develop and administer ongoing education programs that enhance the congregation's awareness, appreciation and commitment to Christian stewardship. Shall direct the church's financial program. Shall prepare an annual audit of the church's financial records.
Personnel--
Shall establish job descriptions and hold annual reviews for church staff. Shall seek to establish working agreements with all staff of the congregation.
Elders--Chairpersons - Shara Hoskins and Sandy VanHook
Shall have general oversight of the spiritual life of the members. Shall assist the pastor in matters of pastoral care. Shall provide supportive counsel to the pastor. Shall serve at the Communion table.
Diaconate--Chairperson, Paula Burden and Jon Hoskins
Shall be responsible for the maintenance and growth of the congregation through its individual members and corporate life in witness in the community and in the world. Shall greet and usher worshippers, prepare and care for the service, distribute the Lord's Supper, Receive offerings, and see to the care of the worship area before and after worship.
Scholarship--Chairperson Kay Cox
Shall promote higher education within our congregation with emphasis on our denominational colleges and seminaries. Shall direct the selection of recipients of any scholarships, with the exception of the A.T. Arnold scholarship.
Trustees--Chairperson
Shall sign all deeds and other legal documents involving the real estate of the church on behalf of the Congregation. Shall act as legal agents of the church in all business matters. Shall have supervision over endowment and trust funds. Shall report income and any transactions to the Board on a quarterly basis.
Nominating--Chairperson Jerry Dawson
Shall be responsible for nominating a moderator, vice-moderator, clerk, treasurer, historian, elders, diaconate and trustees.
