Who is Jesus to You?

Reading for Saturday, March 6

John 7:1-13

Gulp!  Such was my friend’s reaction when she heard her husband’s answer to the same question to name his favorite breakfast food.  He’d just stated, “Anything but pancakes.”  You’ve probably guessed that her answer was, “Pancakes.”  After all, she’d served them every Saturday and Sunday for fifty years and he’d never complained!

The first thirteen verses of the seventh chapter of John show that the same is true of our relationship with Jesus.  No matter how well we know him, there is always more to be learned.  If Jesus’ own brothers didn’t know Him well enough to realize that their advice couldn’t be heeded, they didn’t know Him well.  The leaders and people of Judea didn’t know Him well either or their words and actions would have been much different.

There is always more to be learned about a husband, wife, friend, mother, father, brother, or sister.  Since each of us is a complex being, we are difficult to know well.  So, though you may have been acquainted with Jesus since you were a child, I ask.  Who is Jesus to you?  How well do you know Him?
