Parable of the Sower

Reading for Sunday, February 28

Mark 3:31-4:9

Have you ever had the privilege of helping bring new life into the world. You have, if you've ever grown a flower. When you plant a seed and care for it it will grow into something beautiful such as a sunflower.

In the parable of the farmer sowing seeds, we see where if given the proper soil a seed will grow into something beautiful. We as Christians should strive to bring new life into the body of Christ by reaching out to others and bringing them to Christ. If we truly love Jesus we will have as much concern for our neighbor as our own families and reach out to others so that they may experience the love and forgiveness of Christ, of which we have been blessed.

As we come into this Easter season, help us to reach out to those who don't know Christ, plant the seed, by testimony and example, nourish the seed, with the rich soil of acceptance and teaching so that it will take root, and water it with the love that Christ teaches us to share. With the fellowship of the church providing the sun's warmth, we will tend our garden to choke out the weeds of worldly desires, helping our new plant to stay secure in the warmth of Christ's embrace.

If properly cared for, our sunflower, will produce many seeds, and in time will produce many more beautiful sunflowers.

Let this be our prayer:

Help us to grow the body of Christ so that all may come to know Jesus and take Him as their Lord and Savior.
