Giving Your Attitude to Christ
Reading for Friday, February 26
John 3:22-36
Do you seek attention or praise for something good you have done? Should you be recognized for your achievements?
When John the Baptist’s disciples found out that Jesus’ disciples were baptizing people, they mentioned it to John in a somewhat competitive manner. John responded “a man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven.”
John the Baptist accepted who he was and clarifies that he is not the bridegroom, but one who rejoices greatly to hear the bridegroom’s voice. He was not bitter about having a lower rank than Jesus. John accepted that he was not to be praised by people – Jesus was. John focused on God, not on himself. He did not want to be praised or recognized for his work.
We should not seek attention or importance from ministry. We must be humble and willing to take the back seat. We must have the attitude that we are doing God’s work. Instead of working against others, we should work with them and use our gifts together to bring as many people in Christ’s kingdom as possible.
Those who abide in Christ, let God control their lives and are thankful in all circumstances. They seek praise for Him instead of themselves and are the ones who are filled with great joy. Give your attitude to Christ. Spend time with the people you are ministering to, for the person who believes in Christ will receive eternal life.
