Promises Kept
Reading for Tuesday, March 9
John 7:37-52
Have you ever made a promise that you did not intend to keep?
Our Lord certainly emphasized this to us, a promise that the Holy Spirit would come. Surely as a child our parents made this an important message. Adages such as “your word is your bond” instilled this characteristic.
Jesus knew we would need this spirit just as His Disciples did, in order to meet and fulfill His intended purpose as followers of Christ.
From earliest days on elementary school playgrounds to present day co-workers, people challenge us for proof. Insofar, as uplifting us by His Holy Spirit, again Christ enables us to live as He lived. The gift He gives us provides a path that allows others to see what Jesus means by helping them to see through us this giving of Himself.
Yes of itself, that would be a tremendous undertaking, but by allowing Jesus to handle our problems and limited efforts completely, that same Holy Spirit makes it so simple!
Wrapping ourselves in Jesus’ care, no law nor rule could prevent our working out the life which we have sworn to live through Him.
