God’s Abiding Word
Reading for Friday, March 5
John 5:30-47
“ You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me, yet you refuse to come to me that you may have life.”
The Jewish leaders, in this Scripture, did not believe that Jesus was the Son of God and was equal with God the Father. As Christians, we have no problem with Jesus’ claims to be God’s Son because we have the New Testament. His critics and non-believers only had the Old Testament. These men were the best Bible students of their day. Jesus reminded them that their Scripture bore witness to him yet they didn’t love the one that was sent to them as told long ago.
Like them, we can quote hundreds of Bible verses, but it doesn’t mean that we have God’s Word abiding in us. We need to use His Word to increase our love for God and our neighbors.
