Faith, Discipline and Spiritual Vitality
Reading for Friday, March 26
Hebrews 12:1-14
“Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.” Hebrews 12: 1-2.
Instead of making an excuse, instead of coming up with a reason of why we do not go out and do something, as Christians we are challenged to continue moving forward in our life and in our faith. Just as Jesus, when He was set before the cross, with those around Him chastening Him, He followed the path in front of Him, showing the discipline commanded by God.
Our decision to try and get out of situations that appear difficult does not place us along the path in which God wants us to follow. Hebrews 12: 11 tells us “Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.” Those footsteps of discipline put us in line to make the tough decision and feel good about it
Though we have been chastened and disciplined in our own life by our parents, our teachers, our employers, whoever it may be, we have been given the tools to better ourselves. We can look at the world and know that not everything is or should be at our fingertips. Some things are better left to the unknown. But along our journey toward spiritual vitality, “Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord.” Hebrews 12: 14.
